Hyundai EON Review - Users & Experts Reviews

There is always a hysterical amount of interest that a new, affordable small car generates. How could we forget the Tata Nano? So there was in case of Hyundai Motors’ latest model in small car (in fact, latest by any in long time) named Hyundai EON. The Eon has been pitted squarely against the Maruti (Suzuki) Alto, the Chevrolet Spark and possibly even proves in-house competition for the Hyundai Santro Xing.

Pitched as a low cost car to attract vast Indian middle class, it was predicted to be at the price of even lower than alto. But albeit it’s assumed prices, it turned out almost the same price as Hyundai Santro and has disappointed lot of people. Though its end variants are cheaper but they come with hardly any luxury.

So, how does it look anyways? The Eon stays very much within the ‘Fluidic’ design philosophy that Hyundai has adopted of late, with the characteristic hexagonal ‘mouth’ and the swept back headlamps. The ‘kick-up’ lines down its flanks give it a sporty look, as do the creases on its bonnet; the triangular fog lamps look cool as well. Comma-shaped taillights and an integrated rear spoiler round off the fresh, funky look – this is a car that will appeal to a broad cross-section of people, if not its price.

Eon boast off a three-cylinder, 814cc engine. In essence, this is the 1.1-litre motor that powers the i10, with one cylinder less. The engine does, however, get a counter balance to keep vibrations in check. Bore and stroke measure 67 x 77mm while the engine features a 3-valves-per-cylinder SOHC arrangement. Peak power output is 55bhp. The Eon shares its 5-speed transmission with the Santro and features a mechanical linkage.

Generating a peak power of 56PS at 5,500 rpm and a peak torque of 7.65 KgM at 4,000 rpm, the Eon's engine manages to beat the current benchmark – Alto – convincingly. The Alto's 800cc engine manages 47 PS of peak power at 6,200 rpm and a peak torque of 6.3 KgM at 3,000 rpm. For a 3-cylinder unit, the Eon's engine manages to be fairly refined under steady acceleration and gets a bit gruffy and audible only at high revs.
What you may not like is its “Gears” which tend to vibrate a lot along with its external body and could prove a turn off for many buyers. Also, the steering lacks self-centering action and this can be a concern at highway speeds. Power delivery at slow speeds is slightly jerky. The engine does not have the pep of the Alto K-series' larger motor. Power is adequate to keep up with city traffic but you do need to pre-plan when overtaking bigger vehicles.

The single-piece front seats provide fair back support but their tapering shape means your shoulders are literally unsupported. Under-thigh support is not impressive and the fixed headrests a tad short. The rear doors open wide enough but the flat seat with built-in headrests feels too reclined and taller passengers will be short on shoulder support in the back as well. Under-thigh support could be better and headroom is limited.

To lower down costs and to keep the price competitive, some parts from the Santro and i10 have been carried over into the Eon. Hyundai has also decided to offer a variant with a driver's airbag and a front passenger airbag will also be available, though that might be offered later.

This new car may not have the space of the Tata Nano or the power of the Alto K10, but it tempts you with its combination of eye-catching styling, well-built interiors and promises of great fuel economy. Santro may eventually turn out its main competitor because of the Eon's price being very close, if not overlapping with the Santro.

Google TV Hardware Upgrade

Google has unveiled the second version of Google TV, and this time it promises to keep it simple.
The first version came out about a year ago and was pretty much universally panned for its complicated interface and lack of real usefulness -- it didn't offer enough clear value to justify the expense and complexity of adding another device to your TV setup. Galaxy Nexus video shows Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0)?

Google Nexus

The Galaxy Nexus / Nexus Prime smartphone we’ve been seeing leak everywhere is back, that time with a 90-second video tour of what purports to get Android 4.0. We know fine that Samsung promises to give to us a “Google episode” of its Unpacked show at CTIA on October 11th, gonna introduce the subsequent main Googlephone, and what we’re seeing here is that very device running that very OS. Jump after dark break to view what’s new.

The immediately apparent changes, when moving on a Gingerbread phone to this supposed Icecream Sandwich device, is the promised replacing of physical (or capacitive) Android keys with three onscreen buttons along the bottom, that happen to be placed beneath four launcher icons and a url to your apps menu. There are many new animations and visual effects applied, plus widget placement on homescreens looks to get nigh comparable to the way it’s worn out Honeycomb. A subtle, ultra-thin line indicates where you are associated with the five homescreens plus the lock screen offers a new unlock-to-camera option. We’ve got a few screenshots from the phone following the break and you’ll find more within the Mobilissimo link below.

Ice Cream Sandwich Android Officially Released

Ice Cream Sandwich Android Officially Released

CALIFORNIA - Google and Samsung will finally announce their latest mobile phone in Hong Kong on Wednesday.

The event was previously scheduled for last week, but was postponed to honor the founder of Apple, Steve Jobs, who died earlier this month. Similarly, as reported by the Telegraph, Wednesday (19/10/2011).

This phone will be the third Samsung phone in partnership with Google. Samsung Nexus Prime will also be a prime mobile phone running the latest version of the Android operating system, code named Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS).

Rumour online suggests that these devices will include high definition (720p) with 1.5 GHz dual core processor with a screen size of 4.65.

It is hoped that this device will be launched in the UK later this month or early November, for the Christmas season. Earlier products from other Google Android has also been released, which is made by HTC Nexus and Nexus S by Samsung.

Google claims that 190 million Android devices have been activated around the world and cellular revenues increased 2.5-fold in the last 12 months

Ice Cream Sandwiches will be Google's first operating system that is used in tablets and mobile phones. The company hopes that this will encourage application developers to use their platform, not Apple's IOS.

HTC Reviews Android Ice Cream Sandwich Upgrade

HTC has released an official statement regarding its next move after Google introduced the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich at Samsung’s Unpacked 2011 on Wednesday.
HTC’s full statement said,

"We are excited about the latest update for Android, Ice Cream Sandwich, and are currently reviewing its features and functionality to determine our upgrade plans. Our goal for Android updates is to give every customer an improved user experience, which means balancing each phone’s unique hardware, HTC Sense experience and the Android kernel. While our goal is to upgrade as many of our recent devices as possible, we are committed to maintaining every phone’s performance and usability first. Please stay tuned for more updates on specific device upgrade plans".

It remains to be seen exactly which devices, how and when will be upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich out of HTC's whole Android portfolio, but between scrambling to get new hardware out more suitable for ICS and reviewing what to do with the HTC Sense overlay now, it might take a while until we see the updates boasting Android 4.0 (Android Ice Cream Sandwich).

Golden Audi R8 Cars - Seems Designed With Gold Only

Brought in 2006, the Audi R8 is based on the Lamborghini Gallardo platform. This amazing car is due to replaced with an all-new model in 2014. Ever since its release, modders have been going crazy with the car, including creating golden versions. The new monochromatic finish definitely calls for extensive staring at the vehicle. That’s a tantalizing blend of making us believe that such things do exist. Onlookers will not get blinded with a brilliant reflective surface but instead can have a closer look at its rich matte finish, which sets this car apart from all other GT machines. The rich color of gold and the superb matte finish has even made the black Audi R8 look dull.

Some of the noteworthy features of Audi R8 are mid-mounted V8 FSI engine, quattro permanent 4 wheel drive and Audi space frame aluminum body. The engine can deliver almost 420 HP and sprints the car from 0 to 60 mph at 4.5 seconds and can go up to 187 mph.

Though gold lovers may not get to drive a car made of gold but they have a possibility of driving a golden car with this remarkable golden Audi R8.

Rambling and Suspicion regarding N9 update

This is NOT my “two weeks on” review, a little rant if you may. Anything from here-on in is solely speculation.( And massive wishful thinking.)
I was digging around in the system files, and came across the icons used throughout the system. Some of which I altered, such as Firefox(Fennec), which I swapped out the standard “Fox on the World Globe” with an already present “Squircle” of the same thing. Nothing major, but it goes better seeing as my other icons are all squircles. (I’m a bit OCD like that.)
Anyway, changing icons is not my point. My point is as I was going through these icons I noticed a few things. First is an AT&T logo. (As far as I know, they only offer service in the US, if I’m wrong please tell me). Why include a carrier for a market that won’t receive the phone? Second exciting thing is the inclusion of Skype video call icons, as well as a “telephony video call” and “telephony video call selected” icon, which I believe is for 3G video calling, as the other calling icons have similar naming. Also, services such as AOL, ICQ, MSN, Baidu, Doppler, Qik, Last FM, Tippit, MySpace, Yandex, Vimeo, IMDB, Wikipedia, Shazam and the Layar Augmented Reality Browser are present. I’m not aware that these services are currently integrated with the device, so why include them in “hidden system files”?

I noticed a post in Nokia Discussions where an employee states that Skype does not have video calling, “yet”. Could the icon indicate it’s coming? I do know Peregrine will support the feature in their next update, but frankly, I prefer non-third party clients. (By third party I mean I want a Skype app by Skype and not a client like Peregrine.)

Didn’t Nokia say Shazam was going to come pre-loaded? Did they just leave it, and many other things, out of the FW intentionally, to make the update seem better?
In the same folders, there are files for keyboards as well. Will we see more keyboards added, or could we even see a community keyboard? As you can see from the file path, there is a “Themes” folder. Could we also see community developed themes? Customisation on the N9 could be nice, well at least in my opinion.

I could just be looking too deep into these sorta things. Maybe it’s wishful thinking. I don’t know. Sorry about a weird post, just felt like I had to share.

Samsung now wants to ban iPhone 4S sales in Australia and Japan

iPhone 4S sales

The continuing legal battle between Apple and Samsung gets another turn as Samsung featuring filed motion for an injunction on Apple company iphone 4S sales in Japan and Australia. Earlier, the Korean company said that it's going to try to ban sales of the iPhone 4S in France and Italy just a day after its launch since the handset allegedly infringes on its patents.

"See how to avoid of the violations, Samsung believes the sale of such Apple devices could be banned," Samsung said from a statement.

Concurrently, Apple on its part says it owns a “thicket of patents,” but would only agree licensing “lower level patents.” This basically means that Apple is not there for the investment like Microsoft containing reportedly signed manages Samsung, HTC as well as other Android phone makers, which have to pay Redmond an undisclosed sum for every single handset they make.

Apple’s goal is apparently radically different - it wants to keep some of its inventions unique to iOS.

Florian Mueller of FOSS patents went over Apple’s filings and summarized Cupertino’s strategy:

"Apple optimizes for product differentiation. Apple isn't Microsoft, which concluded a license address Samsung and also eight other Android device makers. Those two companies have different business models generally and with respect to patents for example."

So far, the legal battle between Apple and Samsung is won by the California-based company. Apple has secured injunctions against the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Australia and Germany, while Samsung has become denied its claim to get a ban on iPhone and iPad sales on the Netherlands.

Stateside, the legal battle continues. The latest hearing had US Judge Lucy Koh show the iPad and Galaxy Tab sideways and asking Samsung’s attorney what one was theirs. The attorney could not reply right now and had to resort to help from others from Samsung’s legal team.
