iWatch release date

iWacth release date?
iWatch is the latest new product changing the shape of the handset market and revolutionizing watch functionality, acting as a companion to the iPad & iPhone.
The Apple iWatch smartwatch is the subject of much recent speculation going into 2013.
Low power Bluetooth 4.0 will be installed in the watch so it can instantly pair with an iPhone or iPad, as well as a 1.5-inch display"

Now this is a real concept and a pretty exciting idea! The watch make calls, change the face of your watch screen, play music to blue-tooth wireless in ear headphones, will also be able to instantly tell you what time it is in any part of the world.

Other features include retina display, 'siri', a stopwatch, an alarm, and a powerful torch!

Cyclists will be able to use the iWatch as a bike computer, accessing the GPS on the smartphone to display speed, distance and pace data.

The iWatch will not a replacement, or a low grade substitute for the smartphone, but will be another interface for our other devices to connect with and another way for Apple to make it near-impossible for us to live without owning their products.

You can expect to see the iWatch in the shops by early 2013 which is an exciting prospect! For further release and spec updates JOIN this page now by clicking the link to the left of the page

Windows 8 tablets

There are still a lot of unanswered questions when it comes to Windows 8 tablets, but the information is starting to come out, and there's no doubt Microsoft is prepared to make a real go of this tablet malarkey.
Windows 8 will use a Metro interface that's much like Windows Phone 7 for when it's used on touch devices, with separate Metro apps. It will support ARM processors, such as Tegra 3, as well, which means manufacturers have options for the hardware they include.
Whether the addition of a new touch interface on top of the traditional Windows look will entice developers and customers is hard to say, but it seems to have the manufacturers on board, and we'll be able to see more when the public beta arrives early next year. If Microsoft pulls it off, it may suddenly become a big mobile player again.

Facebook looking to buying whatsApp: Rumors

Unofficial sources has confirmed facebook looking to buy WhatsApp. However, this is a gentle move for Facebook because WhatsApp is available on a number of different platforms and has a staggering 100 million daily active users globally, serving few billion messages every day. The mobile app is currently the number-two paid app in the US Apple App Store, where it sells for $0.99. On Google Play, it’s free for the first year, and then $0.99 per year thereafter.

Why Facebook wants for this deal?

Facebook previously bought Instagram for $1Billion not very long, although that number is mostly reflected in now reduced stock options. It’s not clear why Facebook would buy WhatsApp but there are a few possibilities, including augmenting or even gutting the unreliable Facebook Chat and there is of course the legion of WhatsApps users. Please leave your comments below if you have different view.
Stay tuned for more update.

Changes in physical size over time

The first hard disk drive, like so many innovations in computing, came from IBM. It was called the IBM Model 350 Disk File and was a huge device. It had 50 24-inch diskscontained inside a cabinet that was as large as a cupboard and anything but lightweight. This hulk of a storage unit could store a whopping 5 MB of data.

Above: An IBM Model 350 Disk File being delivered. Yes, that’s ONE hard disk drive unit.

Although hard disk drives kept improving, state-of-the art disks were built according to the concept “bigger is better” well into the ‘80s. Hard disk drives were normally used together with big mainframe computers, so this was not such a big deal. Entire rooms were already set aside for the computers.
Above: State-of-the-art hard disk drive from the ‘70s.

IBM introduced the first hard disk drive to break the 1 GB barrier in 1980. It was called the IBM 3380 and could store 2.52 GB (500 times more than the consumer options at the time). Its cabinet was about the size of a refrigerator and the whole thing weighed in at550 pounds (250 kg).

Above: The disk drive module of the IBM 3380.

Early in the ‘80s, smaller “consumer” hard disk drives designed to be used with the increasingly popular microcomputers (now known as PCs) started to appear. The first ones were 5 MB in size and had a form factor of 5.25 inches.
For a visual on how hard disk drive sizes have changed since the ‘80s until today, have a look at the below image with an old 8-inch drive all the way down to today’s 3.5-inch, 2.5-inch and 1.8-inch drives.

Amazing facts and figures about the evolution of hard disk drives

It took 51 years before hard disk drives reached the size of 1 TB (terabyte, i.e. 1,000 GB). This happened in 2007. In 2009, the first hard drive with 2 TB of storage arrived. So while it took 51 years to reach the first terabyte, it took just two years to reach the second.

This article looks back at how hard disk drives have evolved since they first burst onto the scene in 1956. We’ll examine the radical changes over time for three different aspects of HDDs: Sizestorage space, and price.

Computer Tech Terms, Facts, and Trivia

The word digital is widely used, but many folks don't know what it actually means; digital describes any system that's based on discontinuous data or events (discontinuous means not continuous or having breaks).
The opposite of digital is analog (analog processes information more or less in a continuous stream).
The word Internet has spawned several new words. Did you know that a netizen is a citizen of the Internet? You do now. A netiquette is etiquette for the Internet.

NASA lost an unencrypted laptop in car!

A Halloween October 13 2012, unencrypted NASA laptop stolen from an employee locked in a vehicle which contains unsecured personal data (Personal Identifier Information) on large number of people. However, it was password protected but not encrypted.

Unfortunately, password protected will prevent Operating System booting but all you have to do attach the hard drive to USB already booted system, and you have full access to the drive.
This was not first time as the organisation lost yet another unencrypted laptop back in March 2012 which containing sensitive data including a number of codes for international space station, names, GPAs, addresses, emails, etc.

Last but not least, the organisation issued direct order on 21st November 2012 prohibited a removal of computers from any NASA facility unless whole disk “Hard Drive” encrypted is enabled or all sensitive file individually encrypted.

The Origin of Computer Mouse

“Do you know that the computer mouse you are actually using now was called “mouse” because  of the cord?”
“The computer mouse was invented by an American inventor named Douglas Carl Engelbart. The idea of the mouse started with his thoughts of finding way for people to interact with the computer screen. According to him, their team’s early ideas are having a big heavy tracking ball that looks like a cannonball, a different gadgets with pivot that moves around, a light panel and a joystick that when you wiggle will allow you to steer things. In the end, the mouse was invented. The first mouse looked like a wooden shell with two metals. The mouse was first called x-y position indicator, then nicknamed mouse by one of Engelbert’s team mate. They were hoping that it would get a decent name once they released it to the world, apparently it did not and was called Mouse until now.”

The First Laptop

“Do you know that even before the first laptop is born, there are similar ideas that been brought by different people?”

“One of the most notable was the concept of  Alan Kay, The Dynabook concept. But the first ever true laptop or portable computer available commercially was the Osborne 1 in 1981 that is under the CP/M operating system. Although it is a bit too far from what we call laptop today and it cannot be used using batteries, it created a high impact as it was the first portable computer that professionals can take with them. Its a size of a portable sewing machine and  allowed to be carried on aircrafts. There are also some claims that the Xerox Note Taker was the first portable computer however, only 10 prototype were released that made it unofficial.”

ENIAC, The First General-Purpose Electronic Computer

“The first general-purpose electronic computer was a turing-complete digital computer known as ENIAC or Electronic Numerical Integrator And Computer was invented by John Presper Eckert and John Mauchly at the University of Pennsylvania. The construction of ENIAC began in 1943 and last until 1946. ENIAC  measured around 8x3x100 feet had 1,500 relays, 7,200 crystal diodes, 17,468 vacuum tubes, 10,000 capacitors, 7 0,000 resistors, and 5 million hand-soldered joints, and consumed 150 KW of power. Its speed was a thousand times than other electro-mechanical machines. It was designed for the purpose of calculating artillery firing tables for the US Army’s Ballistic Research Laboratory and was programmed to solve different computing problems.”

The Origin of the QWERTY Keyboard

“Do you know that the computer keyboard you are using right now began with the invention of the typewriter? The transition of the typewriter into computer keyboard was made possible by some technological development. Computer keyboard is also known as “The QWERTY keyboard”. It was invented by American inventor , Christopher Sholes.”

“The early computer keyboard was either a teletype machines or keypunches, and it includes a lot of electromechanical steps to be able to transmit data between keyboard and computer that slowed the process. Around late 70′s until now, all computers already been using electronic keyboards and VDTs. But the computer keyboard owes it original layout to Christopher Sholes, the inventor of the QWERTY keyboard.”

NTC launches WiMax Service in Nepal

NTC has released WiMax Service in Nepal where the users can enjoy high speed Internet from their home as well as their offices. This is a good service for those  who don't have NTC telephone line in Nepal. The new WiMax service doesn't need NTC line in your home in order to use this service. This technology can be useful for people of villages where there is no access of telephone lines.
Currently, NTC is installing WiMax towers in Kathmandu as its initial project. Once the installation is done, NTC plans to continue this project and provide this facility to people of Pokhara. Once the installation is complete, you can enjoy your fast broadband Internet without any hassle . No wires, no cables. All you need is a Wi-Max installed adaptor which is pre-installed in many of the laptops. However, you will need to make sure that you are in near the range of tower which is providing the WiMax service. At present  WiMAX service is available in Kathmandu (around 5km-10km from our Data Center). You can test the signal strength first before you apply. The setup and activation of this service is very easy.

WiMax technology may seem unreliable to many of you but it is in fact as reliable as your ADSL connection. NTC has stated this project to make sure that there is stable Internet throught the 75 districts of the country.
For fellow readers who want to use this technology, do wait for a bit to be notified on how well WiMax technology works. Bookmark this page for further information about WiMax introduced by NTC.

Nexus 7 Vs SmartQ X7

SmartQ X7 is a 7 inch tablet which looks like a big brother of Nexus 7 which comes in 249$ for 16GB model but has much more to offer. In fact, SmartQ X7 has everything that you wish Nexus 7 had. That includes Rear Facing Camera, Micro-SD Card Slot and Mini- HDMI out port. That's not all, this device also has in-built FM transmitter that Nexus 7 doesn't have. Here are the key features of the all new SmartQ X7:
  • 7" IPS Screen with 800X1280 resolution
  • 16GB inbuilt storage with Micro-SD card slot
  • Built-In FM Transmitter
  • 2MP rear camera
  • 2MP Front facing Camera
  • 2GB RAM
  • 4,200 mAh battery
  • HDMI out port
  • Android 4.1 out of the box
  • Dual Core TI OMAP44701.5GHz processor
  • 10-point capacitive touch screen
  • Bluetooth 3.0+EDR
  • GPS
The specs sound pretty good, doesn't it? But how does it really stand in front of Nexus 7 who has won everyone's heart. Packing all these goodies, SmartQ X7 costs 50$ more than Nexus 7 and it costs around 20$ more including shipping. The specs sound good on paper but we really don't know if this device is as fluid as Nexus 7 and how durable this device really is. Also, be aware that this device doesn't get direct software support from Google as Nexus 7 does. We don't know how is the customer support is either. Nexus 7 already runs Android 4.2 JellyBean.

Also, upon close look, we have come to find out that SmartQ X7 doesn't have NFC which is found in the Nexus 7. Lack of NFC can be deciding factor for many of us on whether to buy which of these two tablets. For now, I would recommend you to stick to Nexus 7 as we all know everything about it and it has all you need. Remember that Nexus 7 is made by Asus and has got brilliant build quality. So, for now Nexus 7 is a clear winner. If you are thinking of buying a 7" tablet, you should obviously go for Nexus 7.

HTC Droid DNA : Retina Display Killer

HTC Droid DNA is the latest flagship of HTC. This is the first worldwide phone to have a 1080p resolution screen in a 5 inch screen. Having such high resolution, the texts look extremely clear with no pixel separation  The HTC Droid DNA has ultra high pixel density of 442ppi. iPhone 5's retina display is nothing in front of this beast.
Other then its super high resolution screen, everything is just as you can expect in a high-end Android smartphone it has a 8-MP rear facing camera and a 2.1 M front facing camera both capable of shooting 1080p HD videos. It has got a quad-core Krait processor clocked at 1.5 GHz and Adrena 320 GPU. Just to make multi-tasking better, the beast is packed with 2GB of RAM. The only section where you will be dissatisfied with Droid DNA is storage option. This beast comes with only 16 GB of internal storage where only 11 GB is user available. That's not the main problem. The main problem is that it doesn't any sport any kind of storage expansion slots( Micro-SD). That's very disappointing, isn't it? What's more? There is no removable battery. This device has a 2020 mAh Battery which looks decent for this beast. We can expect 1 day full usage with a charge. Hopefully, the Super LCD 3 doesn't consume much of the battery.I don't know what is wrong with HTC but they seem to make one or the other mistake with each and every smartphone they manufacture.
HTC Droid DNA comes with Sense 4+ UI which is really impressive. This device comes with Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) out of the box and future update Android 4.2 on the way. This device can be charged wirelessly like the Nokia Lumia 920 and some other smartphones which is pretty cool feature to have.Looking design wise, HTC Droid DNA looks absolutely beautiful. The bezels are much less and the screen is mind-blowing. The performance of this beast is very impressive as well. The benchmarks revealed that it outperforms most of the high-end Android available right now. This is a Verizon exclusive phone. You can expect a similar international version to be released soon.

Is Windows Phone 8 better than Android?

Windows Phone 8 which was released by Microsoft some months back may be one of the best mobile OS available right now. But the real question is, Is it better then Android? Can windows phone outsmart Android which is the king of mobile OS right now? Let's find out.
Windows phone 8 comes with a lot of new features which were missing in Windows phone 7, 7.5 and 7.8 finally, all the limitations are now removed. The key features of Windows Phone 8 are as follows:

  • Multi-core processor support
  • Multiple screen resolution support
  • Clean UI with distinctive design
  • DirectX graphics support
  • MS Office mobile pre-installed
  • Social integration easy access
  • Cloud services (SkyDrive, Windows Live, Xbox Live)
  • Wireless sync of multimedia content (all data)
  • microSD card supprt
  • USB Mass Storage mode via cable
  • Multi-tasking much easier
  • Video codes such as DivX/XviD video support
  • Bing Maps Integration
  • Children's corner
  • Data Sense
  • Amazing JavaScript performance
  • NFC support
  • Bluetooth file transfer
There are plenty of new features, aren't there? Well, there are tons which we have yet not taken notice of. Windows Phone 8 really looks like awesome and may take over Android some day.To be honest, Windows Phone 8 is not still as good as Android . There are still a lot of things missing  For instance, there are no shortcut option from lock-screen, no widgets and stuffs like that. The only place from where you can get your applications is the Windows Store. 3rd party applications from other sites doesn't seem to work.

Windows Phone is getting great day by day. But, on the other hand, Android is getting much more better. Android 4.2 Jelly Bean 4.2 offers multi-user account which is great for tablet users. The face unlock feature is also very cool. This feature now works perfectly with the liveliness check option. The max supported resolution of Android 4.2 is much higher than that of Windows Phone 8 as well.
So, for now Android is still better than Windows. However, if you are bored with the Android layout and the same old widgets, you can give Windows Phone a try. They are not bad either. The only thing you will miss is the big application library and some minor things like music equalizers, no voice assistant, etc. So, that's it for now. Also, there is no file manager in Windows Phone as there is in Android.

Why future mobiles won't have Micro-SD card slot

None of the Apple product have any kind of expansion slot for storage expansion. Then, came Google with its Nexus branding which too didn't offer expansion slots. HTC devices used to offer Micro-SD card slots in their handsets but looks like HTC too is getting tired of SD cards and is trying hard to get it off their devices. Neither HTC One X or the One X+ offer Micro-SD card expansion slot. It now looks like Micro-SD card slots are going to extinct in the near future. You can expect Samsung Galaxy S4 to come out in the market without any kind of expansion slot. Blackberry devices are also rumored to come without any kind of expansion slots of any kind.
So, the biggest question is, Why have smartphone manufacturers decided to make devices without expansion slot of any kind. The answer is very simple. To make money. Some of you may be confused but yes, it's the money they are after. If you ask how, I have got a very simple explanation for you.
32GB Micro-SD card costs 20$.
16GB iPhone 5 costs 649$ ; 32GB iPhone 5 costs 749$
Price difference: 100$ for just 16GB!!!
For instance, if iPhone 5 had expansion slot, people would buy 16GB model for 649$ and buy 32GB card for 20$ and get 48GB iPhone 5 for just 669$. See the difference in there. Apple started it and now everyone is following. If anyone is getting fooled, it's us. So, let us all protest against Micro-SD card removal from Smartphones and get what we pay for.
Don't be surprised if you see every company come up with smartphones with larger internal storage and no expansion slots. People will be at serious loss if this trend continues. Also, think about all the cards manufacturing companies. What will they do? Let us all wake up and realize the fact.

Will HTC ever rise again?

HTC was and is a legend. It's that smartphone manufacturing company to come up with the first real smartphone. It was the same manufacturer to come up with Windows OS in a phone. HTC Sense, that is the best Android UI we had and have ever seen. HTC took Android to the next level. It made amazing phones with extraordinary features. But now, things are slowly changing. After each quarter, all we can see in the reports HTC publishes is loss. HTC smartphones sales is going down rapidly. The sales as well as profit is nowhere near like what it was 3 years back. It's not that HTC now a days is not making a good smartphone, they make awesome phones but there is always something missing in HTC products. For instance, HTC One X didn't have Micro-SD Card Slot or the Removable Battery and people went after Samsung Galaxy S3. Then, after months they come up with HTC One X+ woth 64GB of internal storage just to figure out that it's too late.
Last year, something similar had happened. HTC came out with their 2011's top flagship "HTC Sensation" which had a serious death grip issue and had a horrible front-facing camera which made people buy Samsung Galaxy S2. The battery in HTC Sensation wasn't good either. Samsung and all the smartphone manufacturer play it smart. HTC doesn't quite get it.
When HTC's smartphone comes out in the market first, it isn't very polished making the phone buggy and slow. Later, they send out firmware updates to improve the speed of the phone but by then people will already have taken replacement for their phone. HTC tries to hard to please the phone carriers like AT&T, Sprint and Verizon and don't care much about the consumers. Also, HTC doesn't advertise its product well. This is the cause why HTC is falling down and not being able to get up. If this is what is most likely to happen in the near future, HTC is going to be history.
HTC, however, if wants to get back where it was 2 years ago, there is no stopping this Taiwanese Company. There are still millions of HTC fans around the world who would be more than happy to be back. People still have faith in HTC and know it can master the Android territory. It's just that HTC is having a bad time now and will shine sometime after. Let us all wish HTC comes up with something good for us in the near future. May HTC rise and deliver us the best. And,yes, HTC will rise and will touch the sky.
