Battery - That seriously needs an Update!

So, you have got a new smartphone? It must really be awesome. A quad-core processor along with 2 GB RAM should really make it a beast. How can we forget about the 1080p Display in your smartphone?  Everything is so fast with the Dual-Band Wi-Fi and 4G LTE connection, isn't it? Smartphones have changed a lot since 2008. In fact everything has changed about smartphones. Or may be I am wrong! Everything expect battery life has been improved.
Doesn't matter which super phone you are carrying, one day or the other, you'll feel frustrated about its battery life. Technology has changed since the day one but the battery life has remained the same. Except for some phones like Motorola Droid Razr Maxxx which has a huge battery, you will need to carry your charger where ever you go! CPU in a  smartphone has been upgraded, RAM has been added and display has been improved but battery is still the same. Especially with HTC mobiles, all you can care about is the battery life of your smartphone which is honestly horrible.

Why has there not been a change in battery technology? Smartphone manufactures too have realized the fact that poor battery performance is the problem of every consumers but there is really nothing they can do. If they put up a big battery in a smartphone, people will find it bulky and normally won't be attracted to it. Battery is a form of energy. Like the CPU, they can't be over compressed and made smaller. What we really need is a smaller battery which can power your device effectively and give huge power backup. There are inventions of small sized battery with larger mAh capacity but they are extremely expensive to be kept in a smartphone. The other problem smartphone manufactures face is that such small batteries dry out over a period of years and are expensive to replace.

So, until a miracle happens, we will have to be happy with what ever kind of battery we have. Battery in our smartphone really needs an update but we are likely not to see that in the near future.

Will Nokia ever rise again?

Nokia was the best mobile manufacturer ever until now. Things are slowly changing for Nokia as its competitors are growing strong with their Android operating system. Nokia is having a hard time coming back. Nokia who is working with Microsoft Windows and Symbian OS are really not being able to catch up with Android which has a large application library.
Windows 8 phone especially Nokia Lumia 920 has been very successful but not as successful as Samsung Galaxy S3 or the iPhone 5 or HTC One X. People don't want to migrate to Nokia as neither Symbian or the Windows phone have as many features as Android or iOS. Nokia's  Asha series is really doing well in the low-end segment. But that isn't enough for Nokia to get back up. Windows Phone seems to be Nokia's last hope.

If Windows Phone 8 fails, then what? Will Nokia go do just as Blackberry did? No, Nokia won't go down by any means. Nokia is planning to build Android smartphone if Windows Phone doesn't work well. That will sort everything out. There's no doubt that people will come back running to Nokia if it adopts Android as its operating system. Nokia is trying its best to take the lead like the old times and looks like it is succeeding slowly. Lumia phones have been a great help to Nokia to get its share back. No doubt, Symbian is slowly dying.
Talking about Nokia rising up, there is no doubt about it. Nokia will rise up and stand where it used to be years back. If Nokia takes up Android, there's no doubt, it will be the No.1 smartphone maker as well as No.1 smartphone seller. Even if Nokia doesn't take up Android, it will catch up as Windows Phone is improving greatly in the recent times. Nokia will be back to wow you all. It's just a matter of time....

iOS - The Good and The Bad

iOS is a premium OS which has the biggest application and game store which runs on only Apple devices. The iOS OS runs everything very smoothly. Everything is fast and easy in this OS. All you need to do is open the application you want to use and you are done. It is a power efficient and non-resource hungry OS. One thing good about iOS is you get almost the the new features via firmware (software ) update. iOS is well known for its security, easy user-interface and great variety of applications. The OS is itself top notch and well polished. You will be getting few updates including stability patches and many other bug fixes as soon as Apple finds it. It has well integration of famous apps such as Facebook, Viber, Skype and many more. Although, you are only limited to your app tray, you also get pull-down notification bar for easy access of your notifications. You get security features to protect your device by using pass-code. Find my iPhone application lets you remotely track your device and even lets you remotely erase all your data. Almost all the applications and games are optimized to run on iOS devices.

However, there are a lot of drawbacks of using iOS. There are a lot of features missing in iOS. iOS sure is secure. But, you will have things you'll need to sacrifice for the sake of security. One major disadvantage is that you will be iTunes dependent to transfer all your music, photos, games and Videos. Also, you are not logged into your Apple account, you can sync your device from only one computer. Further, you won't be able to transfer any of your data from your iOS device via Bluetooth  Doesn't matter if it has Bluetooth 2.1+EDR or Bluetooth 4.0, FTP will be disabled. Customization is next to zero in iOS device where users are forced to use theme which is already set by default. Also, there is no homescreen and no widgets. The drop-down notification bar shows only few things and doesn't let to toggle through settings. These are few of the iOS drawbacks that you will need to know.

So, you now know the good and the bad about iOS. You can surely chose whether you want an iOS device or not. If you are a professional person who's going to use such device for work, you will be more than pleased to get it. If you are a teenager like me, you may want to check out Android OS as well. Android is skyrocketing right now. It too has many cool features that you'll seriously love.

Should you get Nexus 7 or should you wait?

Well, its been almost a year since the launch of the Nexus 7 and it is still selling like hot pancakes. 100's of 7 inch tablets have been launch after Nexus 7 but none have been able to take over the Nexus 7. It may sound cheesy but Nexus 7 is still the best 7 inch tablet we have around us. Well, but it's 2013 and it sure is a new year for rise of tablets and mind you tablets sales are increasing rapidly. You may even see a Nexus 7 II this year and who knows what else! So, do you think it is going to to be wise enough to  get your Nexus 7 at this time of the year? Let's find out.
Nexus 7 may be a 2012 device and may seem old to many of you but actually it does everything perfectly just as you would want a perfect 7 inch tablet to do. The specs are still high end with 1 GB of RAM and 1.2GHz nVidia Tegra 3 Quad-Core Processor. Yes, I know nVidia Tegra 4 has just been released but don't expect to be seen in a budget tablet like Nexus 7 any time now. Some of you may think that this is going to be a bad time to purchase Nexus 7 but to be honest you won't find any better time to get such premium product in such less price. Nexus 7 II is going to cost a lot more than Nexus 7 as it will feature a back facing camera and a better processor. Just like the Nexus 7, even the Nexus 7 II will have a higher price at the beginning and will ultimately reduce the price at the end of the year to maintain the sales.

You buy a gadget today then be sure it's going to be outdated tomorrow. That's one fact you will need to face. No matter how good and premium product you buy it is going to die one day. Just thinking that if you start waiting, trust me, you will wait all your life. Go for Nexus 7 and you won't regret. However, if you are planning to get a 7 inch tablets months after today, you might really want to wait. But, if you are planning to get it today or tomorrow, just don't wait and get it right away. It is worth the price. You will simply love your Nexus 7!

Nexus 7 Vs SmartQ X7

SmartQ X7 is a 7 inch tablet which looks like a big brother of Nexus 7 which comes in 249$ for 16GB model but has much more to offer. In fact, SmartQ X7 has everything that you wish Nexus 7 had. That includes Rear Facing Camera, Micro-SD Card Slot and Mini- HDMI out port. That's not all, this device also has in-built FM transmitter that Nexus 7 doesn't have. Here are the key features of the all new SmartQ X7:
  • 7" IPS Screen with 800X1280 resolution
  • 16GB inbuilt storage with Micro-SD card slot
  • Built-In FM Transmitter
  • 2MP rear camera
  • 2MP Front facing Camera
  • 2GB RAM
  • 4,200 mAh battery
  • HDMI out port
  • Android 4.1 out of the box
  • Dual Core TI OMAP44701.5GHz processor
  • 10-point capacitive touch screen
  • Bluetooth 3.0+EDR
  • GPS
The specs sound pretty good, doesn't it? But how does it really stand in front of Nexus 7 who has won everyone's heart. Packing all these goodies, SmartQ X7 costs 50$ more than Nexus 7 and it costs around 20$ more including shipping. The specs sound good on paper but we really don't know if this device is as fluid as Nexus 7 and how durable this device really is. Also, be aware that this device doesn't get direct software support from Google as Nexus 7 does. We don't know how is the customer support is either. Nexus 7 already runs Android 4.2 JellyBean.

Also, upon close look, we have come to find out that SmartQ X7 doesn't have NFC which is found in the Nexus 7. Lack of NFC can be deciding factor for many of us on whether to buy which of these two tablets. For now, I would recommend you to stick to Nexus 7 as we all know everything about it and it has all you need. Remember that Nexus 7 is made by Asus and has got brilliant build quality. So, for now Nexus 7 is a clear winner. If you are thinking of buying a 7" tablet, you should obviously go for Nexus 7.

HTC Droid DNA : Retina Display Killer

HTC Droid DNA is the latest flagship of HTC. This is the first worldwide phone to have a 1080p resolution screen in a 5 inch screen. Having such high resolution, the texts look extremely clear with no pixel separation  The HTC Droid DNA has ultra high pixel density of 442ppi. iPhone 5's retina display is nothing in front of this beast.
Other then its super high resolution screen, everything is just as you can expect in a high-end Android smartphone it has a 8-MP rear facing camera and a 2.1 M front facing camera both capable of shooting 1080p HD videos. It has got a quad-core Krait processor clocked at 1.5 GHz and Adrena 320 GPU. Just to make multi-tasking better, the beast is packed with 2GB of RAM. The only section where you will be dissatisfied with Droid DNA is storage option. This beast comes with only 16 GB of internal storage where only 11 GB is user available. That's not the main problem. The main problem is that it doesn't any sport any kind of storage expansion slots( Micro-SD). That's very disappointing, isn't it? What's more? There is no removable battery. This device has a 2020 mAh Battery which looks decent for this beast. We can expect 1 day full usage with a charge. Hopefully, the Super LCD 3 doesn't consume much of the battery.I don't know what is wrong with HTC but they seem to make one or the other mistake with each and every smartphone they manufacture.
HTC Droid DNA comes with Sense 4+ UI which is really impressive. This device comes with Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) out of the box and future update Android 4.2 on the way. This device can be charged wirelessly like the Nokia Lumia 920 and some other smartphones which is pretty cool feature to have.Looking design wise, HTC Droid DNA looks absolutely beautiful. The bezels are much less and the screen is mind-blowing. The performance of this beast is very impressive as well. The benchmarks revealed that it outperforms most of the high-end Android available right now. This is a Verizon exclusive phone. You can expect a similar international version to be released soon.

Is Windows Phone 8 better than Android?

Windows Phone 8 which was released by Microsoft some months back may be one of the best mobile OS available right now. But the real question is, Is it better then Android? Can windows phone outsmart Android which is the king of mobile OS right now? Let's find out.
Windows phone 8 comes with a lot of new features which were missing in Windows phone 7, 7.5 and 7.8 finally, all the limitations are now removed. The key features of Windows Phone 8 are as follows:

  • Multi-core processor support
  • Multiple screen resolution support
  • Clean UI with distinctive design
  • DirectX graphics support
  • MS Office mobile pre-installed
  • Social integration easy access
  • Cloud services (SkyDrive, Windows Live, Xbox Live)
  • Wireless sync of multimedia content (all data)
  • microSD card supprt
  • USB Mass Storage mode via cable
  • Multi-tasking much easier
  • Video codes such as DivX/XviD video support
  • Bing Maps Integration
  • Children's corner
  • Data Sense
  • Amazing JavaScript performance
  • NFC support
  • Bluetooth file transfer
There are plenty of new features, aren't there? Well, there are tons which we have yet not taken notice of. Windows Phone 8 really looks like awesome and may take over Android some day.To be honest, Windows Phone 8 is not still as good as Android . There are still a lot of things missing  For instance, there are no shortcut option from lock-screen, no widgets and stuffs like that. The only place from where you can get your applications is the Windows Store. 3rd party applications from other sites doesn't seem to work.

Windows Phone is getting great day by day. But, on the other hand, Android is getting much more better. Android 4.2 Jelly Bean 4.2 offers multi-user account which is great for tablet users. The face unlock feature is also very cool. This feature now works perfectly with the liveliness check option. The max supported resolution of Android 4.2 is much higher than that of Windows Phone 8 as well.
So, for now Android is still better than Windows. However, if you are bored with the Android layout and the same old widgets, you can give Windows Phone a try. They are not bad either. The only thing you will miss is the big application library and some minor things like music equalizers, no voice assistant, etc. So, that's it for now. Also, there is no file manager in Windows Phone as there is in Android.

Will iPad Mini 2 have iPad 4th generation resolution and Retina Display?

iPad Mini 1 isn't out yet properly and the rumours of the iPad Mini 2 has already been published in many of the sites. There are very few chances of the rumours to come true as Apple has to undergo full revision of the product and also see what their competitors have in their shelves. Some rumours state iPad Mini 2 will feature a quad core processor and some even say that iPad Mini 2 will be able to GSM call via SIM Card and the list goes on and on. There are even some leaked photos but they look too ugly to be true.  But one rumour is sure to appear true. Yes, you are right, I am talking about the Retina Display.
iPad Mini 2 without any doubt will feature a high resolution Retina Display screen. That change will come because iPad Mini 1 is highly criticized for its low resolution screen Also , the iPad Mini 2 will have the same screen resolution as that of iPad 3rd and 4th generation.  The reason why Apple will be giving it the same resolution is that if they come up with different resolution, the developers will again have to do some work with their apps and many application will not optimized for the iPad Mini 2 leaving behind empty spaces in your screen. We have seen such issues earlier in iPhone 5 as well. Apple is well known for revising its product well and iPad Mini will be no exception. We have seen most of the Apple products advertised with "Retina Display" and iPad Mini 2 will follow the same line-up. That surely will happen.

Does a 5 inch screen need 1080p resolution with 440ppi?

5 years ago it was a great thing to see a 40" TV with a 720p HD resolution. That was a lot of resolution for a TV to have. Then, slowly we got to see 1080p Full HD (1920X1080) resolution which was just too amazing for the eyes.  People had never seen such sharp image in a TV before. From that time, TV was not just a TV. It became a luxury product which people who buy the make their living room look better.
Coming back to the topic, even Mobile Phones now boast higher resolution. First, it was nHD then qHD and then 720p HD and some of the phones like HTC Butterfly J, rumoured HTC Droid DNA and Sharp Aquos SH930W have full 1080p HD screen in them with 440ppi. It was Ok to see a 720p HD screen in mobiles like the Samsung Galaxy S3 and HTC One X but 1080p is way too higher than what our eyes need. Even on a 5 inch screen that is too much of pixels. 720p or 1080p, it wouldn't make a difference to our eyes. The text and the images or the videos make look sharp but that essentially doesn't mean we need 1080p HD resolution in a 5 inch device. That's the answer. No, a 5" smartphone or any other device with Super LCD 3 doesn't need a 5" screen with 1080p Full HD resolution.

Funniest iPhone 5 parody

iPhone 5 is surely a very good smartphone. Good things are often talked about and made fun of. So, here is the funniest iPhone 5 parody available in Youtube. Really, it's too funny.Have a look. The Video is posted below.

Is iPad Mini better than Nexus 7?

iPad Mini which was criticized badly at it's launch for its low resolution screen and for using  last year's specification might not be as bad as you think. To be honest, it is the best 7 inch (though iPad Mini is 7.9") available right now. You may be thinking  I have forgot about its main competitor, the Nexus 7 which is much more powerful than the iPad Mini. But that is not the case. Nexus 7 sure has better specification on paper but that advantage is not seen while using the tablet itself. The raw processing power of Nexus 7 while comparing the power of iPad Mini is honestly negligible. Although iPad Mini has a dual-core 1GHz A5 processor with only 512MB of RAM, it is just as fast as Nexus 7 which uses nVidia Tegra 3 Quad-Core Processor clocked at 1.3GHz and 1GB of RAM. You can see the comparison yourself in the Youtube Videos (you will find many). The only place where iPad remains behind is the low screen resolution and less ppi.
Yes, iPad Mini is much more better than Nexus 7 but you will have to keep in mind that it also costs way more. The iPad Mini has better construction with better material and is more stronger than Nexus 7. iPad Mini had survived the drop test(if not fully) but Nexus 7 was in such a condition that it couldn't be used at all after the drop test performed by Android Authority. One more reason for you to chose iPad Mini is that it has a 5MP rear camera capable of 1080p HD Video recording. That sure is a wow factor for many of us. The other thing is that iPad Mini is more tablet optimized than Nexus 7. iPad Mini is slimmer and lighter. iPad Mini, thus is the best 7 inch tablet so far.
iPad Mini is better than Nexus 7, no doubt about that. But you should also consider the price difference. If you are looking for a great tablet and don't care about the budget, iPad Mini is the one for you. If you are looking for a budget Tablet, nothing can be better than Nexus 7.

Price of LG Nexus 4 in Nepal

Nexus 4 by LG is expected to launch after December in Nepal. Though it is not confirmed officially, workers there reported its release date to us. Nexus 4 is one of the most powerful Android smartphone which ships with JellyBean 4.2 out of the box. The most luring thing about this device is low price point although the build quality is superb. With its 4.7 inch HD screen and 2GB RAM, anyone will fall for this beast. The only thing missing in this device is Micro-SD Card Slot.
The key features of Nexus 4 are as follows:
  • Display: 4.7" diagonal 1280 x 768 pixel resolution (318 ppi)
  • Krait Quad-Core Processor with Adreno 320 GPU
  • Dimensions: 133.9 x 68.7 x 9.1 mm, 139g
  • Cameras - 8 MP (main), 1.3 MP (front)
  • Storage: 8 GB /16GB internal storage (No SD-Card Slot)
  • 2 GB RAM
  • 1080p HD Video Recording
  • Wireless charging
  • Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean)

The price of LG Nexus 4 at launch will be Rs.31,500 for 8GB model and Rs.39,500 for 16GB model.

How is Nexus 10 build quality?

"Nexus" is something that every Tech lover is talking about today. It's become popular not only because of its hardware or software but mostly because of its low price point. Nexus 10 priced at only 399$ is one of the best 10 inch tablet we have in the market right now. The most astounding thing about this table is its ultra high resolution screen. Nexus 10 has resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels which offers pixel density of 299ppi. That's very high, isn't it? It's even higher than that of iPad 4th generation which boasts to have Retina Display. This beast comes with 2 GB of RAM along with a very powerful 1.7GHz Quad-Core Samsung made chip. With all these goodies packed inside, most of us expect it to be very expensive. But, seriously that is not the case. Nexus 10 just costs 399$ for 16GB model which is a great price point.
With Nexus 10's low price point, many of us doubt about its build quality. The Nexus 7 is another reason why people doubt about Nexus 10 build quality. It's low price point has nothing to do its build quality. The hardware is made by Samsung is is pretty solid. The display(screen) is pretty strong. It is  a gorilla glass, so no need to doubt about its solid toughness. The durability of this device cannot be doubted as like other Samsung devices, it is highly durable. If you however doubt about the build, put a case our Nexus 10 and walk around. This is a great device. If you are looking for a tablet for this Christmas, Nexus 10 is the one for you.

iPad Mini beats Asus Nexus 7 in Drop Test

Apple's iPad Mini priced at 329$  beat Asus Google Nexus 7 priced at 199$ in the drop test performed by Android Authority fair and square. Although we can see that iPad Mini didn't drop in its back many a times, the results wouldn't be any different. Although iPad Mini didn't survive the drop test, it was still operational. Asus Google Nexus 7 in the other hand was completely broken and was turned off. The screen as well as the back case came off. Price at only 199$, Nexus 7 doesn't have good build quality. So, be sure to keep your Nexus in your case before use. Apple iPad Mini proved to be solid although it costs a lot more than Nexus 7.
So, if you want to watch the drop test yourself, here is the Youtube Video by Android Authority.

How is LG Nexus 4 build quality?

Don't be surprised if you find every phone being compared with Nexus 4. This is for the first time in the history that we are seeing a High-end pure Android device(with latest version of OS) tagged with a very low price. Let me tell you all, this is not a budget smartphone or something like that. What it has to offer is what you can expect a 750$ smartphone has to offer. Nexus 4 although tagged with very low unlocked pricing makes a lot of profit in long run. The only sector where it is lagging behind is storage. It comes in only 2 storage option of 8GB and 16GB. For many, it is a disappointing fact and for others, they don't really care. LG and Google are both branded companies and are not someone to make poor quality products.
Priced at only 299$, a lot of people are questioning about the build quality of the LG Nexus 4. Some people say it has a horrible build quality and say that users can't have the best of both worlds while others say it has fantastic build quality. Don't get too much confused with the build quality of Nexus 4 because it is made by a branded company with collaboration with Google. Even with this low price point LG and Google will be making profit with their device, that you can be sure of. Not only Nexus but almost all the 800$ (+) devices are made under 200$. For instance, it takes 167.50$ for Apple to make an iPhone. Other mobile manufacturers are taking much more profit than the Nexus 4, that's only the difference. It's cheap doesn't mean it has a poor build quality.

Does Windows RT need Anti-Virus software?

Windows RT is a new Windows platform. A completely new platform which shares no compatibility with older Windows OS which means that you won't be able to run any Windows (XP, Vista,7) applications in your RT devices. In simple words, .exe file is not supported in your RT device.
There are no virus or bugs threat in Windows RT (till now). So, you basically won't need a Anti-Virus software either. Infact there is no anti-virus software in Windows Store itself. Windows RT is virus free. You won't get infected by Windows(Xp,Vista,7) viruses as it won't read those virus files at all. They may enter your hard-drive(internal storage) but won't do any sort of harm. They will just be "unreadable files". So, it's easy. You basically won't need a Antivirus Software for your RT device at all!

Does Windows RT catch Viruses?

When it comes to "Windows OS", there's always one thing you need to be afraid of. Yes, it's "VIRUS" what I am talking about. Windows 98, XP,Vista, 7 and even Windows 8 are prone of being infected by Computer Viruses. But what about Windows RT, the new Windows introduced platform which is most likely to be used by Tablets. Does it become infected by worms and viruses?
Windows RT is a new platform that doesn't share compatibility with any old version of Windows. It is not going to run any of your .exe  files or any old Windows softwares and programs. This can be a good news for many of as well. With non-compatibility with the Windows software, you are free from Microsoft Windows Platform Viruses. The virus from your computer may be transferred to your Windows RT device but is most likely to be un-read by the device leading to no harm or threats to your Tablet powered by Windows RT. Small malwares and spyware may still attack your RT device device, but this OS till now has no serious thread that you need to be scared of. For now, Windows RT doesn't catch any kind of Virus and you don't need to install any kind of AntiVirus either. You don't need antivirus software and there are no antivirus software in Windows Store either.

Nexus 4 : Key Features

LG Google Nexus 4 is officially out and it's price is what is going to make you buy it. Priced at only 299$, it is one of the best budget super phone you  can get anywhere in the world. Seriously, looking at its specs sheet, I don't want to call it budget phone because most of its specification is better than that of high-end smartphones. The chipset is very powerful combined with 2 gigs of RAM. The only place where you will have to think twice while buying this device is "Storage". LG Google Nexus 4 comes in only two storage options (8GB/16GB) which is pretty low for today's standards. Other than that, everything is perfect. Nexus 4 is equipped with 8MP camera capable of 1080p HD Video recording, Quad Core Krait Processor clocked at 1.5GHz and all the other goodies you would want to see in your superphone.
The key features of of LG Google Nexus 4 are :

  • Display: 4.7" diagonal 1280 x 768 pixel resolution (318 ppi)
  • Krait Quad-Core Processor with Adrena 320 GPU
  • Dimensions: 133.9 x 68.7 x 9.1 mm, 139g
  • Cameras - 8 MP (main), 1.3 MP (front)
  • Storage: 8 GB /16GB internal storage (No SD-Card Slot)
  • 2 GB RAM
  • 1080p HD Video Recording
  • Wireless charging
